Job Description:

This position requires the flexibility to float as needed to clinics in Escondido.

Summary: The medical assistant works under the direction of the assigned medical provider for matters related to direct patient care. Reports to direct supervisor for personnel matters, work assignments or other non-patient related issues. As a family health center, services provided include family planning, prenatal care, and primary care for pediatric and adult patients. The medical assistant performs duties only within the scope of his/her training. The medical assistant maintains patient confidentiality and conducts themselves in a professional manner at all times.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Set up room for examinations and special procedures as directed by provider. Ensure that exam rooms are adequately stocked and cleaned between patients.
  2. Assist in processing patients to ensure efficient flow from the front to back office.
  3. Take vital signs and obtains chief complaint or reason for visit from each patient. Obtain other information as per protocol prior to the provider seeing the patient. Document information obtained per protocol. Initial, date and time all chart entries and vital signs using legal signature and title in eCW or paper chart.
  4. Instruct patient/parent to disrobe (if applicable) and ensure patient’s readiness for provider’s examination.
  5. Monitor assigned provider’s scheduled patients and inform provider of no shows, late patients, walk-ins, etc. Adhere to provider’s room assignments.
  6. Keep patients informed if the provider is running late.
  7. Conduct certain procedures under the direction of the medical provider such as; EKG’s, nebulizer treatments, oxygen administration, wound care, and administers vaccines and certain medications as ordered by the provider and following established guidelines.
  8. Monitor and report problems with the equipment and/ or supplies.
  9. Perform required tasks/ procedures to appropriate authority in a timely manner.
  10. Obtain lab specimens ordered by the provider according to established guidelines and instructs patients accordingly.
  11. Record/report all “in-house” lab values via eCW and to provider as indicated.
  12. Properly record all patient documents into eCW by scanning, copying or providing these documents to medical records for inclusion into patient charts.
  13. Adhere to clinic policy and procedures in regards to safety, infection control, and OSHA guidelines.
  14. Communicate instructions and information to patients under the direction of the medical provider or RN. Document information provided into eCW/chart per clinic guidelines.
  15. Report work incidents (e.g. needle stick injuries) immediately as per protocol.
  16. Attend and participate in staff meetings/trainings/exercises.
  17. Function at highest level according to credentials and competency.
  18. Positively impact patient experience by demonstrating values of Transforming Care including, but not limited to, courteous and helpful behavior and a commitment to accuracy.
  19. Share accountability for overall patient health outcomes, working in coordination with Care Teams.
  20. Operate to instill confidence in our care and in our facilities to patients, fellow employees, and other stakeholders.
  21. Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills:

Qualifications and Skills: Ability to provide excellent care to diverse patient population. Ability to work well under pressure and in stressful situations. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to document accurately using a computer based electronic health record system. Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Education & Experience: High School Diploma/GED. Medical Assistant and CPR certification. Some MA experience preferred. Pediatric/Prenatal experience preferred.
